INTRODUCTION to Project WORDPRESS

These modular self helps on WordPress are arranged in order of how you might want to start up a new website.

To start creating and building your site, you need to secure a Domain name from a provider such as Godaddy.   You can arrange to have your provider configure you as a Hosted WordPress, or you can purchase server space and have the WordPress App loaded to work with your Domain name.

We have a Godaddy account,  a Godaddy Domain, a Godaddy Server Space/C-Panel/Hosting account, and we have loaded WordPress to our Domain.  We do not use what Godaddy provides that is referred to a Hosted WordPress.  There may or may not be additional charges for that.  They may or may not be able to assist you better with problem solving if you go the Hosted route.

Our thought was if we ever wanted to change providers we wouldn’t be so locked in, if using a Hosted type of account.  That may not even be a valid argument.

Even if you are a dummy in this part of the set-up your provider should be able to walk you through it.  We struggle every time we add a new site.  It seems there are enough changes in the steps required,  during these intervals, even  more experienced users get confused.

Of course Domains cost, Server Space cost, and Hosted WordPress, verses loading the app may cost?

We have used free web builders from other third parties.  Yes they work.  But you will find you are very restricted, they pump their own ads through, and the Domain [web address] normally contains a path with a word specific to their business.  They are a big pain to move your pages over to something you own.  Any SEO rankings you have achieved using the third party, will be lost.  Been there done that too!

For these WordPress aids, we assume you have completed securing  a domain, server space, and have worked through setting up the basic WordPress.  That you can log into the Admin section of your WordPress site, commonly referred to as DASHBOARD.

Once you can log into your WordPress site we assume both the App Type and Hosted Type work and look the same?  Just bear in mind our information is based on what we see in the App type.
